Name: Ruben Aleman

Position: MS Student

Contact Information: alemanr[at]oregonstate[dot]edu

Education: BS Crop & Soil Science, Oregon State University 2016

Research Interests: Ruben is currently studying the impacts of atmospherically deposited sea salt aerosols on carbon turnover on the coastal soils of the Cascade Head Scenic Research Area. He is interested in how soils along an inland gradient respond to similar treatments of a complex salt water mixture, specifically how it effects the movement and binding of dissolved organic carbon and overall partitioning of organic carbon within the soil. He hopes to continue researching nutrient cycling in coastal and marine soils after completing his Masters.

Honors and Awards: Ruben received a Geological Society of America Graduate Student Research Grant in 2017.

Background: Ruben graduated from the Tacoma School of the Arts in 2011 and began his undergraduate studies at Oregon State University later that year. As an undergraduate he focused on sustainable agriculture systems, working extensively with small organic farms and vineyards within the Willamette Valley.
